Finding the right balance between giving enough information and not too much is key. If you keep these things in mind when writing a product review, you’ll be well on your way to writing a product review that engages readers, informs them, and keeps them coming back for more.

It’s easy to come across as condescending when you’re boasting about how much you love a product, so try to refrain from sounding too “over the top.” Instead, try to write your review as if you’re talking to an old friend.

Of course, you want to remain professional, but there should be a friendly, casual tone throughout your entire review.

You should sound as if you’re simply giving your friend advice on which product to purchase. If you’re writing a negative review, there’s no need to get all teary-eyed or melodramatic about it.

The best way to empathize with your readers in this situation is by being 100% honest. Tell your readers that you’re writing a negative review because you want to help them save their money – not because you want to bash the product or the company.

Personalizing your review by connecting with your readers emotionally and identifying with their requirements is one way to make your opinions stand out.

Instead of listing the features of a product or service, offer helpful information about how the product or service might address your readers’ issues.

Consider why a customer may be interested in purchasing your product or service and how your product or service’s features could assist them in real life.

After this, you should go into a short but informative paragraph explaining the product. For example, if you’re reviewing a pillow, talk about how many people suffer from poor sleep, what can affect sleep and why the pillow you’re reviewing can help solve these problems.

You also want to include some background information on the product or service you’re reviewing.

You don’t need to write a novel, but you should give your readers some insight into why the product or service came to be.

This will help your readers understand the product and why it’s important to have it. It will also help them make an informed decision if they’re interested in buying it.

Include the basics

After you’ve introduced the product, you need to include the basics. This means you need to include the price of the product, the pros and cons of the product, who the product is best suited for, and any other important information that your readers need to know. So they can make an informed decision on whether they want to buy the item.

You should cover things like the name of the product, the company behind the product, the product’s price, and the product’s availability.

If you’re reviewing a product that’s available, you can include a link to make it as easy as possible for your readers to buy the product. If you’re reviewing something more unique, like a one-of-a-kind item, you can still include the basic info that your readers would want to know.

You can also link to where they can find similar products that they can purchase instead.

If you want, try to find an affiliate link to the product so you can earn a commission when something buys through your affiliate link.

Suppose you’re writing a review for a product you bought at an online store. In that case, you may also want to include information such as how long you’ve been using the product, what you like about it, and/or what you don’t like about it. This will help your readers understand if the product is a good purchase or if it’s best to look for something else.

Explain the benefits and features

After you’ve included the basics, you need to explain the benefits and features.

One of the best ways to review a product is to write about its benefits and features of the product. Not only will you give your readers the basic info they need, but you’re also going to help them make a better decision about whether or not they want to purchase the product.

When writing about benefits, keep the focus on the reader. What will the product do for them? What does it have that others don’t? What makes it special? When writing about features, you want to focus on the reader again.product feauture list

Readers usually have problems they encounter with why they want a product, and core features are what most directly address these issues. You should provide one or two descriptions of each feature, including all crucial data. After you have listed the features, describe how they operate within the item or service.

Keep your descriptions to one or two sentences to accurately portray how the features operate. Then, apply them to a real-world scenario. Make your descriptions short and do your best to create an accurate picture of how the features alleviate the reader’s issues.

Again, if you’ve reviewed a product you bought at an online store, you may also want to include more features and benefits about the product in your review.

This is where you get to really highlight why you love the product. You can go into detail about how the product helps you, how long you’ve been using it, how often you use it, how long it lasts, etc.

You may also want to include details about additional features other customers may not be aware of. This will help your readers understand even more why they should buy the product.

Review the bad as well as the good

After you’ve included the benefits and features, you need to review the bad as well as the good. This is the part of your review where you address the issues with the product if there are any. You don’t want your review to be all positive because that won’t be helpful for anyone – not even the company that manufactured the product.

A good review will also address any issues with the product, but it will do so in a fair and balanced way. You don’t want to trash the product, but you also don’t want to mislead readers by only talking about the good things about it.

You’ll come across as more genuine and honest if you keep the good and bad balanced in your review. If you only write about the good and completely ignore the bad, your review isn’t going to be helpful to anyone.

You can still write about the bad without sounding negative. You can mention what the product could improve on without bashing it or the company.

Conclude with a recommendation

Finally, you need to conclude with a recommendation. This is where you let your readers know whether they should purchase the product or not. You can also recommend the product to certain groups of people if you feel they’d benefit from using it.

However, you don’t have to give a “thumbs up or thumbs down” in your review. You can simply state whether or not you would recommend the product.

If there are other products out there that are better than the one you’ve reviewed, you can also let your readers know about those as well. This is your chance to truly inform your readers about what you think about the product and why they should purchase it.

It is also the part of your review where you can link to the product and/or the website which you bought it from.

Include more social proof to reinforce your message.

Consider providing more testimonials or evaluations to strengthen your content’s credibility. You may quote other reviewers, connect to other evaluation websites, or include feedback from industry professionals or experts to accomplish this.

You may even allow for comments on your evaluation so that others may share their own experiences with the product or service.

A brief description of your review is provided.

When you finish writing your review, end it with a brief summary. Summarize your opinion of the product or service, and emphasize the key points. Indicate whether you believe the item can benefit others.

In your assessment, you may talk about the price of the product or service to indicate whether it provides a good value for buyers. Your final judgment on the product or service helps readers make purchasing decisions.

Check your review for Grammar errors and add links and relevant pictures

You don´t want to publish a review with many spelling and Grammar errors. Because it reduces trust that your review is genuine. So use a grammar checker tool like Grammarly to correct your product review and improve your sentences.

You can also add Affiliate links to the product if you want to earn a commission when someone purchases through your link.

Find relevant pictures to make your product review more appealing. For example, you can show some features through images or even make a video where you use the product.

Publishing your review

By now, if you’re a regular reader of my blog, you’d already know that I enjoy using Semrush. It’s my favorite program for keyword research, competitor research, on-page analysis, technical SEO fixes, and, recently, social media benchmarking and scheduling.

The Semrush dashboard is indeed intimidating. However, it doesn’t take long to familiarize yourself with the tools and locate them.

It’s a bit like Excel or Photoshop in that you won’t ever use all the capabilities, but it’s advantageous as your company grows.

The dashboard provides several tools for tracking your domains and checking traffic volumes. You can also track long-tail keywords by typing them in.

The Semrush dashboard is a treasure trove of features that you can constantly work with. Everything is in view on the dashboard.

As you scroll over features, Semrush provides links to all of the company’s support channels and little tips to explain what each one does. In addition, direct customer support is just one click away.

Analyze your website.

Before beginning your competitive analysis, you must first see how your site performs on various metrics.

The site is split into several sections, each of which is dedicated to a different aspect of the site. Many additional sections are linked to different parts of the site.

Using Semrush, you can gather all this critical data in a short time.

The Semrush Domain Overview report will give you a general idea of how your website and competitors’ sites perform.

Go to Semrush and type in your domain name to get a “Domain Overview.” Select it from the drop-down menu and click the “Search” button.

The report will show you your site issues, traffic, organic search, paid search, backlinks, organic terms, paid terms, and more.

Click on “Organic Research” from the sidebar menu to obtain information about your site’s organic keywords, organic traffic, and organic position changes.

Click on “Backlinks” in the sidebar menu to see a breakdown of your backlinks, including the number of referring domains, link types (text, image, form, etc.), and the percentage of follow vs. no-follow links.

You can export the results into an Excel or CSV file for all of the above features.

Before using more advanced Semrush features such as site audits and position tracking, I urge you to try this step first.

Identify the organic competitors.

Semrush compares several competitor websites with your site to provide the top-ranking keywords and information on whether you can compete by targeting those keywords.

Market Explorer also compares your website to other similar websites. You can see how those other sites obtain their traffic and pinpoint areas such as referrals, search, or social marketing.

To identify your organic rivals, simply enter your domain name in the Semrush search box, select “Organic Research” from the menu, and click the “Search” button.

The “Competitors” tab in the organic research report provides information on your rivals:

The first thing you’ll see is the Competitive Positioning Map, which is a visual representation of where your website stands compared to your competitors.

The organic keywords and traffic determine the website’s position on the map.

Sites that rank for more keywords will appear farther to the right on the map. Websites that receive more organic traffic appear higher on the map.

When you mouse over each bubble, you can see their organic keywords and the traffic they receive.

In the organic competitor’s table, you can scroll down to see competitors’ websites.

The fact that there are so many competitors here doesn’t mean you can’t win. Focus on these key numbers:

Doing keyword research before starting to write your content.

Semrush’s keyword research appears to be complicated at first glance, but it’s really an enhanced version of the Google Keyword Planner.

Semrush first provides information about the volume and trend of search queries for specific keywords. Then, you can use that data to develop keyword ideas that are easier to rank for.

You can look for specific, broad, and phrase keywords, which are excellent for discovering keywords you may not have thought of before.

I’ll quickly mention a few critical keyword research features here.

The Semrush toolkit consists of three primary keyword research tools, and each one has a distinct function:

Plug your seed keywords into the search bar to begin the keyword research process in Semrush.

Upon entering your seed keywords, Semrush will provide you with an overview report for your keywords, including all the important keyword metrics and some top keyword variations.

Take note of the search volume, keyword difficulty, and trend graph.

The “View All” button below the keywords list in the “Keyword Variations” section will allow you to see more variations for your target keywords.

For advanced filtering options, you can use Semrush’s Keyword Magic tool to filter the list of keywords for your next campaign.

Topic Research is one of the best ways to generate blog post ideas because it offers a large mindmap and list of competitor headlines on a subject. It’s one of the best options I’ve ever seen to provide direct insight into your competitors.

You can use Semrush to keep track of the keywords your competitors are targeting, their SERP rankings, and even get a look at their ad copy.

You can improve your PPC ad copies and optimize landing pages for maximum impact this way.

The tool is easy to use.

Despite its simple interface, Semrush may be difficult to get accustomed to, particularly if you are switching from services like Moz or SpyFu. Furthermore, it has a lot of functions, so it can be somewhat overwhelming at times.

However, there is no reason to worry, as Semrush has a lot of resources to help you learn how to use the tool.
